One denominations ‘holier than thou’ stand on Sports

Before reading this article I forgot how crazy some Christian groups could be when it came to ‘being seperate’ from the world. Take a look at the link and see for yourself. I wish some of these people could just relax and love Jesus!

Side Note:
I’m a huge Philadelphia Flyer fan. Have been since I was about 10. A few things about them (that could be considered evil) is that they incorpaorate black in there clothing and their farm team is called the Phantoms. Some even think Bobby Clark (General Manager) is the devil. For the record, I haven’t felt any conviction about following them over the years. Only jealousy from Leaf fans who can’t seem to go as deep in the playoffs…ever!

Hollywood and Reverance?

level of worship = level of results…what?

So I’m flipping the channels on Saturday (between golf shots) and notice a chruch broadcast on one of the stations. I’ve seen it before, they’re a prosperity gospel kind of church that shows clips of their Sunday services. To be honest, the lead pastor is a great communicator except for one thing, he teaches that God wants you to be rich and succesful. Not my kind of gospel (it wasn’t Jesus’ kind of gospel either). So a few days ago I hear him saying that “our level of worship must be equal with our level of praise…if you’re looking for a healing, then your worship has to be equal to that of a healing…”. It just blew my mind. Where in the world do people get the guts to say these kinds of things. I’m not here to criticize, only (as King David also did) to stand up for the God I worship. Worship isn’t about what I want or how I feel or what style of music you play in your Christian gathering, it’s about who God is. If I’m asking God to heal my body, provide food for my family or give me wisdom in a tricky situation it shouldn’t change the way I worship. Worship is giving God what he’s worth, period, not what he’s worth to you at a particulr moment. If my reason for worship (living for God daily) is to get something from God then I’ve started in the wrong place and God definitely won’t be pleased.

I thought I’d share my thoughts on this…cause it really bugged me!

how many days until easter?

I’ve been thinking that Easter gets the raw end of the holiday deal. As soon as December 1st rolls around people around the world (well…North America anyway) start counting down to Christmas. I totally understand why. I mean, most people will be recieving gifts or seeing family they miss. For this and many other reasons people count down to Christmas.

Why don’t we count down to Easter? I guess chocolate eggs just aren’t worth the race. I’m thinking that there’s a whole lot more to celebrate at Easter than Christmas. I realize that there are no gifts…but hey let’s face it, the greatest gift of all was the sacrifice of Jesus life for the world on the cross. I don’t think the church celebrates this enough. Maybe what I mean is that many evangelical churches don’t celebrate this enough. No lead up; no teaching series, no talk of Easter until the day the kiddies wave branches after the morning gathering. This is a real shame. Jesus words to his disciples on his way to the cross are some of the most significant teaching the gospel writers recorded. (i.e. washing of feet, love one another as I have loved you, vine and the branches, the way/truth/life, …).

As of today there are 39 days to Easter…any body else counting?
